Joyce's story: Destination Hope

One of the organisers, Joyce Gledhill, has long found that Lifewords Finding Hope booklet sparks natural conversations about her faith. She shared: “I frequently keep Finding Hope in my bag and find that it appeals to people in a wide range of situations and ages."

The 'Destination Hope' exhibition featured artwork from local schools, a banner made by the church’s over-80s group, crocheted lettering, a collection of paintings, folded-book art, needle-felt pieces, models, poems, song lyrics and interactive spaces.

One moving scene allowed guests to encounter a wooden cross casting a shadow with the words “It is finished,” before stepping into a symbolic garden scene with a sunrise and empty tomb. A prayer room followed, set as a banquet - representing Jesus’ invitation to all - leading into an interactive activity where guests wrote prayers on leaves and hung them on a seasonal 'tree of hope'.

Afterwards, refreshments in the foyer offered time to reflect or chat with volunteers. Many visitors opened up about personal struggles, and volunteers were able to talk gently and openly about the hope found in Jesus. Every guest received a copy of Finding Hope and a postcard poem to take home, helping them to reflect further on the theme of hope and the Easter story.

This exhibition is just one part of the church’s wider commitment to sharing hope throughout the year. The church continues to serve seniors, children, youth, those facing unemployment, families on limited incomes, and so many more, through its regular activities, foodbank, pantry, community hub, and village-wide events.

Joyce reflects: "Sometimes in our café, we were able to have a conversation based on the booklet they were reading; the verses led nicely into talking about life, hope, and different perspectives.”

“Thank you SO much for enabling such a vital part of this outreach into our community and beyond: we have long valued your publications, and this has been truly impactful.”
