Surrender

Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven.

Jesus said: "Blessed are those who are persecuted because of righteousness, for theirs is the kingdom of heaven."

In many instances, it feels good to do good. We are often rewarded for our acts of kindness. You greet someone and they warmly greet you back. You help someone out and they are grateful. You give love and you receive love.

But what about those times when doing the right thing leads to pain and negative consequences?

In this beatitude, Jesus invites us to endurance, to keeping on doing good, whatever the cost. To believe that right action is more important than any opposition we may face.

Risk doing good

What is the good that you have hesitated to do because of what it might cost you? Is there any issue, cause or situation of injustice that you don't speak up about because you fear a loss of reputation, or opposition from people who are important to you? Think about a tangible step you can take this week, to speak up or to do goof. Then take the risk.
